Customer Service Representative
JJ Kane Auctions, a subsidiary of Altec Industries, is seeking a Customer Service Representative to join our team in Birmingham, AL. This position is an on-site role that requires attendance in the office and is ideal for someone who enjoys helping customers, solving problems, and communicating by phone.
The majority of this role involves handling customer inquiries and service requests over the phone, while also supporting customers through email interactions. Successful candidates will thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy talking with customers throughout the day, and be able to manage multiple tasks while delivering exceptional service.

What You'll Do
Customer Service & Customer Support (Primary Focus)
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, handling a high volume of inbound phone calls and customer inquiries.
- Assist buyers, sellers, consignors, and vendors by providing timely and professional customer service.
- Resolve customer issues and answer questions via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
- Ensure a positive customer experience by maintaining a customer-first approach in every interaction.
Auction & Administrative Support
- Request, track, and apply sales tax exemptions.
- Review accounts payable invoices for timed auctions.
- Audit auction items and direct them to the appropriate workflow status.
Process Improvement & Team Support
- Assist with tracking and documenting buyer lot issues for review.
- Support databases used to monitor post-sale issues and refund requests.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and special projects as assigned.
- Attend classroom and online training programs to build knowledge and skills.
Work Environment
- This position is based in our Birmingham, AL office and is not a remote position.
- Regular in-office attendance is required.
- Team members should expect to spend a significant portion of each day handling customer service calls and customer inquiries.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of three years of customer service, call center, sales support, or related experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general office technology.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Title processing experience.
- Mechanical aptitude or equipment industry knowledge.
